rarity

Sheesh but I’ve been working hard, friends. Risking poor spinal health with all the hours at my desk (putting my body on the line, like an athlete!) and modeling both poor work/life balance and questionable screen habits for my family.

Good times!

I’m about to call good enough for a Thursday and head out for a walk in the warmest part of the day, but thought I’d fire off a handful of worthy links before I go.

Excellent resource here from the British Government about screen use in early childhood services (btw, happy birthday, Prince George! Princess Catherine is a champion of these causes so dear to both our hearts and I hope that we can be pals some day. I can be her nerdy older cousin and she is the dynamo who can affect change. A buddy movie with a feel-good moral).

Write up here about research from Leeds (spoiler: screens and babies is not the bestest) … here is more new work, this study looking at working memory of children and the negative impact of time spent gazing at screens rather than trees or faces.

How about something lovely? Work from the University of East London which uplifts the value of family play.

I have been doing some interesting bits of research for one of the irons in the professional fire, leading to reading stuff like THIS and THIS. Rapturous!

Finally, I send you all the beautiful aroma of my blooming daphne bush. That’s not a euphemism (cheeky!) but the name of the flowering plant in the picture I am trying to attach to this post. It tells me that spring is on its way, although there is likely more lousy weather, first. Snow is forecast in the south, overnight.

This brings me to a quick admission … as a person who is prone to being about 20% too hoity toity at least a couple of days a week … I got a bit incensed that the convenor of a global group I am part of referred to dates in July and August as “summer”.  After all, for those of us in the southern hemisphere, it is most certainly not that. I suggested that it wasn’t very Global of her, and went away to look up the percentage of the world’s population that live down our way.

Go on.

Guess.

Jeez, Louise. It’s only 10-12%!!

Surely that makes me a rare, collector’s item?
