Jeez, but i am susceptible to succumbing to brief and intense passions … each one often worth years of focus.
Today: the poetry of Mary Oliver. Yesterday: images from the Hubble space telescope. Last week’s obsessions included new music and some old music, too.
I tell ya what has been a constant in my life, however, and that’s BABIES. Adoring them, admiring them, advocating for them.
They are why I am so darned concerned about the intrusion of big tech into everything, and FRIENDS I am not the only one concerned. Check out this excellent gang, working hard around what they are calling “Human Change” (like climate change, but for humans …) and while reports from the US government might not currently mean what they once did, this one still rates a look, in my opinion! Here is a write up about that report, from People magazine, and meanwhile, in the UK … another damning report … this one seems to have informed a legislative change, which is pretty exciting!
More! Here is a piece from the Guardian, about Sweden encouraging parents to put down their phones (DO IT! In Swedish, that’s Gör det!) and (praps paradoxically) this is a piece about the limits of willpower in all this.
I will end with this, “Instructions for Living a Life” by Mary Oliver. Just see if you don’t get a bit obsessed, too! ’tis Genius:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
