Kia ora friends,
Seems to me, there are two types of people in this world. Those who get excited about a pot of dahl, and those who don’t.
I guess you could say lentils are in my blood. My parents had a health-food shop in the early 80’s called “Whole Foods”, long before it was a bougie supermarket chain in the USA. Chickpeas are my comfort food. I am a legume loving lady. And I’m a lady who loves those who share my love of legumes!
As such, I’ve been thinking that a simple litmus test for “MY KINDA PEOPLE” might be as simple as offering a dahl, and witnessing the response. I have further work to do on this hypothesis – but I think the venn diagram of “those who love dahl” and “those who care deeply about people (*especially babies) and the planet” would pretty much be … just … a circle.
Let me know your thoughts. I guess there could be folk focussed on families who prefer a beef stew, and there’s room in my heart for y’all. But a beefy preference shouldn’t remove the passion for pulses. Least that’s what I reckon!
Anyway, a few links before I zip off and join a zoom training from the fine people at Whāraurau. Can’t wait. I love learning as much as I love to support others in theirs.
First up, and this is amazing, a piece from the wonderful Darcia Narvaez and her team about breast milk and how it varies its content depending upon the time of day. Holy heck – how did I not know this? Super interesting and important.
Next … hopefully, this link will work … it’s from the New York Times and it’s a thoughtful piece about tech for kids of all ages, and what parents might do/provide. Most of it I agree with! I still think they’re a bit too forgiving of social media … let’s not overlook the fact that Meta pays neoNazis. I don’t wanna support that shizz and I don’t want my kids to, either.
For another perspective, let’s never overlook the excellent work from the 5Rights Foundation in the UK. This is a link to their child online safety toolkit. Great stuff, but then again: so is building capacity and joy in the real world, too!
This looks like a rather lovely resource from Australia, about attunement with Baby, and … why the heck not … I’ll end with a how-to on making flower crowns!
